Dependencies

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 (RHEL5) and current Fedora, Gentoo, and Debian systems are already based on Reference Policy; thus, these systems have all requried dependencies. Deploying a monolithic Reference Policy to a RHEL4 system is possible without updates; however, deploying a modular Reference Policy to a RHEL4 system requires updated SELinux packages. Building Reference Policy on a RHEL4 system also requires updated SELinux packages. RPMS for the policy and compiler toolchain (e.g., checkpolicy) for RHEL4 are available from the CLIP project.

Build dependencies

Reference Policy has the following build-time dependencies for modular policies:

• Checkpolicy 1.33.1 or higher
• Policycoreutils 1.32 or higher
• Libsepol 1.16.4 or higher
• Python PyXML (only required to regenerate config files and documentation)

Reference Policy has the following build-time dependencies for monolithic policies:

• Checkpolicy 1.33.1 or higher
• Libsepol 1.16.4 or higher
• Python PyXML (only required to regenerate config files and documentation)
• gcc

Run-time dependencies

Reference Policy has the following run-time dependencies:

• Kernel that can support at least a version 16 policy, or higher for standard TE-only policy
• Kernel that can support at least a version 19 policy, or higher for MLS or MCS policy
